REDEFINE YOUR ART: Create Creative and Unique Canvas Designs by Combining Different Materials!

Art has been a part of human existence since the beginning of time. Often, it has been a tool for individuals to express themselves, share their dreams, or reflect their emotions. Creative canvas designs are an important tool used to create original and attention-grabbing works of art. In this article, we will explore different techniques related to creative canvas designs, the techniques I use, and examples.

Throughout history, there have been many stories related to creative canvas designs. One of them is related to the famous painter Vincent van Gogh.

Van Gogh settled in a house in Arles and had a productive period there. The garden of the house was the subject of many of the artist's paintings. However, during this period, he was going through a tough time due to his mental breakdowns and depression. One day, Van Gogh wanted to visit an old friend, Paul Gauguin. However, he learned that Gauguin was not at home and returned disappointed. When he returned home, he imagined Gauguin sleeping in his own bed and decided to make a gift for him. Van Gogh started drawing Gauguin's portrait on his canvas. However, his hand began to tremble during the drawing, and he made a mistake. Angry, Van Gogh tore up the drawing and threw it in the trash. The next day, Van Gogh's roommate saw a torn canvas in the trash and rescued it. When Van Gogh saw the torn canvas in his roommate's hands, he decided to take it back. With his friend's help, he repaired the torn canvas and completed the drawing.

This incident was a turning point in Van Gogh's life. After this event, Van Gogh rediscovered his love for art and creativity, and his works became even more original and creative.

This story shows that creative canvas designs can have a meaning beyond being a work of art and even lead to turning points in our lives

What kind of materials can we use for Canvas Design?

DESIGN FROM THE BACKBOARD AND SHELF OF YOUR OLD CLOSET

Clothing cabinet shelves are usually made of materials such as wood, chipboard, or MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard). While wooden shelves provide durability and a natural look, artificial materials like chipboard or MDF can be more affordable and easier to work with.

HOW CAN I DO IT?

First, we sand our shelf and backing board with sandpaper. If you don't want to deal with the hassle and mess of it, you can ask for help from a carpenter or do it on your balcony. While you're there, you can also have the backing board cut to the same size as your shelf. Now your canvas is ready. Here's an example of a canvas I made using this method.

DESIGNING ON A READY-MADE CANVAS WITH DIFFERENT MATERIALS

Any material around you can be a source to use while drawing. For instance, you can create an interesting sense of depth by combining paper pieces. You can create a transition between the papers that gives a feeling of unity with your drawing. If you use oil paint, you can mix different colors to create a beautiful intermediate tone and explore your own color palette. In one of my canvas drawings, I used dried daisies, which added a whole different vibe to my drawing.

MAKING CANVAS WITH FABRIC

I had bought canvas fabric by the meter. It offers the possibility to make canvas in the desired size. You can also make beautiful canvases from the back of your old canvas or from large cardboard refrigerator boxes. I also use duck cloth, which is thicker and stiffer than canvas. I usually use duck cloth when making wall coverings.

You can attach the fabric to cardboard with staples or paperclips.
